Eee PC 1000H RAM Upgrade

The ASUS Eee PC 1000H ships with 1GB RAM. Please take a look at the following guide, if you want to upgrade your machine and you are not so sure about the individual steps and what kind of memory module to by.
All i can say: “It’s really easy!”

The 1000H has only one Slot for Standard 200pin DDR2 SO-DIMM, so you have to remove the existing 1GB memory module that comes preinstalled and exchange it with the new 2GB memory module.
Currently these are the most common DDR2 memory speeds:
  • 533 MHz (PC4200)
  • 667 MHz (PC5300)
  • 800 MHz (PC6400)
The Mobile Intel 945GSE Chipset supports a maximum memory speed of 533MHz (PC4200). There will be no advantage in memory speed if you use 667MHz or 800MHz Memory, as they will always be downclocked to 533MHz.
What we need:
  • a small Screwdriver
  • a 200pin DDR2 SO-DIMM with 2GB
Note:
To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer).
1. Remove Battery and Upgrade Panel
Turn off the Eee PC, place it with the bottom face up on a soft cloth (to protect the top from scratches) and remove the battery.

Unscrew the marked screws with your screwdriver and place them aside. Now you can gently remove the upgrade panel that covers the hard drive and the single DIMM slot with the preinstalled memory module.
2. Remove preinstalled Memory Module

Use your fingertips to carefully spread apart the marked securing clips on each end of the DIMM slot until the module pops up. Now you can remove the memory module from the slot.

3. Replace new Memory Module
Before you insert the new memory module, align the notch in the memory module with the tab in the DIMM slot. Then slide the memory module firmly into the slot at a 45-degree angle, and rotate the memory module down until it clicks into place.
4. Replace Upgrade Panel and Battery

Align the tabs on the upgrade panel to the bottom of the computer and gently replace the upgrade panel. Then replace and tighten the two screws on the upgrade panel and slide the battery back into the battery bay.
5. Power up Eee PC

Turn on the Eee PC and immediately press “F2″ to enter BIOS Setup. On the first screen under System Memory you should see “Installed Size: 2048MB”. If everything went fine you can exit BIOS Setup with “Exit & Save Changes”.
If you miss this step, it may be possible that the system configuration information will not be updated and your operating system still shows only 0.99GB of installed RAM.
